4-11 year olds
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is ‘Wild World Heroes’, a nature-themed challenge created in partnership with WWF that will inspire you to stand up for the planet.
Children, aged between 4-11, can join the Wild World Heroes for the challenge and discover how to make a difference to the environment too. Pack your bags and head for Wilderville! It’s a pretty cool place, but there are lots of things that the Wild World Heroes can do to make their town even better for the people and animals that live there.
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge will feature amazing books, awesome rewards and plenty of ideas for taking care of the environment.
Sign up at The Word or other South Tyneside Libraries* from Saturday 10 July to take part and read six library books of your choice and return them before Saturday 25 September to complete the challenge There are rewards to collect along the way and it’s totally FREE to take part.
All children who sign up will receive a poster and two sets of stickers. Once they have completed the challenge, they will then receive another set of stickers, a pencil and a certificate. Children can choose from a large selection of books, as long as they are borrowed from the library.
Please note: Children must take out all six books at one time and return all six together to complete the challenge and receive their prize.
* The Summer Reading Challenge will be delivered in the Council’s multi-service hubs – The Word, Hebburn Central, Jarrow Focus and Cleadon Park and children will be able to complete the challenge across all four libraries. The challenge will also be delivered in the volunteer-based organisations, Boldon and Cleadon Community Library and Perth Green Community Association – however, children who sign up to the challenge in these libraries will need to complete their challenge in that specific library.
About the Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency, is delivered in partnership with public libraries and funded by Arts Council England. The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun as well as helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’.
