Local history talks take place at the Wednesday Heritage Club every second Wednesday of the month, 2-3pm at The Word.
Our September talk will be delivered by Helen Scofield on on Wednesday 11 September. Helen will be talking about “The Training Ship Wellesley”.
The Tyne Training Ship “Wellesley” was moored on the north side of the Tyne at North Shields. A familiar sight across the river it provided boys with an education and training for a life at sea before it was destroyed by fire in 1914.
Tickets are £2 and are available to buy online (plus booking fee) or from the first-floor staff pod at The Word.
