Make new friends while exploring your neighbourhood 

South Tyneside Libraries have set up a programme of fantastic walks from each of the council libraries. These walks are open to everybody; they are free to attend and you don’t need to sign up. Simply turn up on the day and join us for some fresh air, good company and a pleasant ramble.

Delivered through the Know Your Neighbourhood Fund.

The walks will start and finish at The Word. Upcoming dates and times are as follows:

Important Information

  • If you have a medical condition you feel we should be aware of, please inform the walk leader
  • Under 18s and vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a responsible adult
  • Dogs are not allowed unless they are a guide dog

  • Comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear
  • Some water

Getting to The Word via Public Transport

Bus – Services from Sunderland, Cleadon, Whitburn, Jarrow, Gateshead and Newcastle all terminate at South Shields Transport Interchange. The Word is approximately 5 minutes walk away. Exit the Transport Interchange towards the town centre and turn left, The Word is located at Market Place.

Metro – The closest Metro Station is South Shields, which is located in South Shields Transport Interchange. Follow the exit for the town centre, turn left and The Word is located at the top of this road.

Ferry – From South Shields Ferry Landing head towards South Shields Town Centre. The Word is visible from the Ferry Landing.
