How to Write a Killer Thriller with Marrisse Whittaker
All three sessions: £11.55 per person if booking online, £10 in person at the shop.
Suitable for ages 16+
Crime fiction author Marrisse Whittaker leads this special three-part Write Festival course.
In these relaxed sessions, participants will each develop an original crime novel idea while learning how to structure, edit, package, and pitch their work to agents and publishers. Who knows? By next year’s Write Festival, one participant may be returning to talk about their newly published killer thriller!
All sessions will take place from 1-3pm at The Word:
Session 1: Tue 1 September – From psychological thrillers and cosy crime to police procedurals and romantic suspense, we’ll explore the key features of each genre and help you discover the best fit for your story. Expect twists, turns, and plenty of creative fun as you begin shaping your novel.
Session 2: Thu 17 September – How not to get lost in the middle of your story. We’ll look at tried-and-tested story structures and techniques for maintaining momentum, building tension and keeping readers hooked.
Session 3: Wed 23 September – Getting your book out into the world — through traditional publishing, indie presses, or self-publishing. Learn how to approach agents and publishers, polish your proposal and pitch your story with confidence.
All three sessions: £11.55 per person if booking online, £10 in person.
By booking a space you’re booking to attend all three sessions.
Suitable for ages 16+
