We’re excited to welcome our patchwork figure Elmer Armstrong for a special one-day-only appearance before the trail begins in August.
Created by artist Mik Richardson, Elmer Armstrong celebrates the first man to walk on the Moon – Neil Armstrong, and will be in our Atrium for visitors to meet on the day!
About Elmer’s Great North Parade
Elmer’s Great North Parade will take over Tyne and Wear from 21 August to 1 November 2019 with a spectacular art trail featuring individually designed elephant sculptures based on the much-loved Elmer character.
Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, written and illustrated by David McKee, remains one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time. The Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages and have sold over 8 million copies worldwide since it was first published by Andersen Press in 1989.
After the 11 week trail there will be a farewell weekend and an auction, where the sculptures will be sold to raise funds for St. Oswald’s Hospice.
