Clippy Matting Display

Free, drop-in

Suitable for all ages

To celebrate Green Libraries Week we will be showcasing Clippy Mats made by our library Clippy Matting groups from Hebburn and The Word.

This traditional craft was popular in working class homes across the North East until the mid-20th century. The mats are made using recycled materials cut into small pieces and inserted onto a backing fabric using a tool called a ‘prog’.

Come along to The Round at The Word on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 October, between 1-5pm to see these fabulous mats on display.

There’ll also be a chance for you to have a go at it yourself or find out more about our weekly Clippy Matting groups.
