Rooftop Garden Development
Enhancements have been made to the rooftop area of The Word as part of a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) project, supported by funding from Arts Council England.
Artist Mark One87 was commissioned to produce a mural on the wall in the rooftop garden and worked with the local community in a series of drop-in workshops to develop the ideas for the design.
Along with the new mural, various nature and garden themed activities took place throughout the summer months. The activities provided children and families with an opportunity to drop in and enjoy some free, fun craft activities during the school holidays.
An official roof terrace open day took place in October 2023 which provided visitors with an opportunity to view the newly enhanced garden area and chat to the artist. The event coincided with Green Libraries Week and included an afternoon of live music with local musicians.
