We had a great time celebrating Fun Palaces this past weekend!
As part of our Arts in Libraries funding from Arts Council England, some of The Word’s fantastic staff worked with Izzy Finch, Learning and Participation Officer from The Customs House, to put on an exciting up-cycling drop-in event called Monster Mash!
Becoming a Fun Palace entails bringing science into a building where it is not commonly found – in this case, our library here at The Word. During the day, families were able to make their own monsters out of recycled cardboard boxes, cups and materials or make a ‘Scribble bot’ which uses a robot to control the way it ‘scribbles’.
We worked with a company called House of Objects who helped on the day creating the ‘Scribble bots’ and we were also joined by Billy Amann who took some fabulous photos of the event.
The day was a huge success and visitors to the building loved getting involved – both young and old! Even the staff had a great day getting involved in the session.
Take a look at our photo gallery below for some fantastic photos from the day.
