On 8 February 2019 The Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Mrs Susan Winfield OBE joined the Deputy Mayor of South Tyneside Cllr Norman Dick and the Deputy Mayoress Jean Williamson to officially open The Word’s new exhibition programme.
Invited guests and their families from the Durham Light Infantry, Armed Forces, local businesses and organisations, cultural partners and artists were invited to have the first glimpse of the new exhibition Cracked! Secret Codes and Communication incorporating ‘When the Bugle Calls’ a touring exhibition from the DLI Collection.
Guests also had the opportunity to meet the artists responsible for curating two further new exhibitions; Shirt Tales by Richard Bliss and Word Bank of Lost Dialects by Robert Good and Jane Glennie.
We enjoyed showcasing our beautiful building and new exhibitions.
