Call out for storytellers and story performers! Public commission: South Tyneside Libraries
South Tyneside Libraries are exploring new ways of delivering library programme to children and their families during the summer holidays, supporting the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, Story Garden which is produced by the Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries.
We are looking to work with an experienced storyteller or story performer to deliver interactive and engaging story sessions to children aged 11 and under, during the summer holidays. Using our roof top garden at The Word (weather permitting), and exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature.
The story sessions will occur, on the same week day for six weeks, between 21 July – 29 August, with a different session each week. Each performance will be repeated 3 times during the day (18 performances in total).

Storyteller or story performer will;
- be invited to meet the Children and Families Librarian to discuss the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, Story Garden theme and develop ideas for the sessions
- produce a final programme of interactive and engaging story telling sessions that are different each week and encompasses children’s ages from pre-school to KS2
- deliver the three sessions on an identified day with library staff over a six week period (21 July – 29 August)
The budget is £2,000 to cover the following expenses:
- storyteller or story performers time
- travel and subsistence
- materials and props purchased for use delivering the sessions
- development of interactive and engaging story session content
- preparation and delivery
