Why you should visit The Word this Christmas

We know that Christmas is a time of year for families and friends to get together and celebrate. The weekends leading up to Christmas tend to be jam-packed for families trying to squeeze in as much festive fun in as possible.

So if you’re looking for things to do with the family in the North East this December, why not visit us here at The Word where we have your Christmas fun all wrapped up!

Come inside our fantastic building and stay warm while enjoying the range of facilities we have on offer. From our swashbuckling exhibition, Shiver Me Timbers, to the hugely popular Lost Dialect Pod, the Kids’ Activity Area and the Digital Media Wall – there is so much at The Word for all ages to enjoy!

As well as this, we have added an extra sprinkle of magic this Christmas. Our Christmas trees are decorated, the Nativity is in place and children can help Santa find his reindeer by doing our Christmas Reindeer Hunt. There is also a selection of Christmas-themed activity sheets for children to complete.

On top of this, we also have a range of festive events throughout December to enjoy!

Appear in your own Christmas card as the hugely popular Christmas Card Booth returns and through the magic of a green screen, you (and your friends/family) can be in your festive greetings cards.

Have a go at FabLab in Christmas Action at our drop-in session where you can design and make your own festive keepsake.

Get into the festive spirit and enjoy our Musical Christmas in the Atrium with a range of carol singers and performers.

Book a place for you and your little ones at Christmas Tales and enjoy immersive storytelling and festive crafts. (Hurry this is nearly sold out!)

Or if your children are slightly older, bring them to our Christmas Laser Fun sessions where they will get to make their own Christmas decoration in our state-of-the-art FabLab, or, book I’ll tell ya about the worm where they will be able to animate their own pantomime by creating a Lego adaptation of The Lambton Worm (this year’s Customs House panto).

And… if you need any more reasons to visit us, you can also warm up with a hot drink and a slice of cake from our café, or, you can pick up a present or two at the Shop @ The Word, which stocks a range of unique gifts from local artists.

Oh, and did we mention we have free parking for up to 3 hours?

Sounds great, doesn’t it? To find out more about The Word, how to get here or the dates/times and prices of our events, visit www.theworduk.org.
